It was signed by David in October 1980 immediately after he gave a television interview to Tim Rice which was broadcast that month on the BBC programme'Friday Night, Saturday Morning'. In the programme, he discussed his Broadway debut appearing on stage as'The Elephant Man'.

The interview itself is easily viewable on YouTube. I have included a screen shot from the interview above for reference. The autograph was obtained by one of the BBC production crew who filmed the interview in New York. The album cover was cut from its original square format into a'portrait' format as seen in the photo. (Possibly this was to enable it to be brought back from New York in airline travel luggage).
